Lead generation for software development companies: methods and suppliers
To generate leads for a software development company, define the client problem and delivery work you can prove, select accounts that fit, and choose how to reach them: existing relationships and referrals, inbound inquiries, or targeted outreach. Check whether each prospect will consider an external development team before treating interest as an opportunity. Choose the supplier around the work your sales team can handle: contact data, inquiry follow-up, or managed outreach and meetings. This comparison covers custom development, dedicated delivery teams and development consulting; SaaS demo campaigns require different proof.
Compare scope, fit and fees ↓Choose the output your sales team can use
- Contact data and account research
- You get accounts and people to investigate; a matching title or hiring event leaves project need and outsourcing willingness unknown. Your team still writes outreach, handles replies and qualifies fit. Choose this when you have prospecting capacity and need better research.
- A source of inbound inquiries
- Referrals, search, directories, content or ads can bring someone to your firm. An inquiry establishes interest in the stated topic, while budget, project fit and buying authority may remain unknown. Your team must respond, nurture and qualify. Choose this when it can handle inquiries and has useful delivery proof to publish.
- Managed outreach and meetings
- A supplier researches accounts, runs agreed channels and handles responses or booking within its scope. A booked meeting establishes an agreed conversation; confirm qualification and attendance separately. Your team still owns technical discovery, proposals and closing. Choose this when it can take sales calls but lacks prospecting capacity.
- An accepted-opportunity workflow
- This is a handoff agreement between supplier and sales, rather than a standard service every vendor sells. Record the need, external-team fit, decision owner, timing and unknowns; your sales owner accepts, rejects or requests more information. Choose this workflow when meeting quality is disputed and the team can review handoffs and give feedback.

Belkins
Belkins describes research, email outreach, and LinkedIn follow-up for Binarapps, a custom software development company. The case includes outreach to CTOs, Heads of Engineering, and VPs of Product. That is relevant experience for this comparison. It does not establish that Belkins will deliver the same results for your niche; ask for a recent comparable campaign and the qualification rules behind its meetings.
B2B appointment setting, lead research, and outreach. Publishes a named custom software development client case.
Dev agencies that want to assess a documented custom-development campaign before hiring.
Agencies expecting the supplier to establish their positioning without a clear service offer and target market.
Request current quote; comparable scope and price not verified in this review.
Named custom-development case; historical supplier-reported results, not independently audited. Case reread October 4, 2026.
Cience Technologies
CIENCE separates setup, campaign operations, software, and optional SDR capacity. Its current pricing page lists a $5,000 setup, a $2,000 monthly execution team, and a $499 monthly graph8 license; SDR and meeting fees sit outside that base. This gives buyers a more detailed scope to compare, but the base price is not the total cost of staffed appointment setting. Ask for a combined quote and a relevant development-services reference.
Managed GTM setup and campaigns on graph8, with optional separately priced SDR capacity.
Agencies wanting campaign infrastructure and ongoing operations, with flexibility to add SDR coverage.
Teams treating the base platform-and-team price as an all-inclusive appointment-setting retainer.
Base $2,499/month; setup and SDR/meeting fees extra; see details. Reviewed October 4, 2026.
Pricing and service scope reread October 4, 2026. A comparable custom-development client case is still required.
Cleverly
Cleverly presents LinkedIn, cold email, and cold calling as its core channels. Its LinkedIn service page publishes a starting price of $397/month and describes targeting, copywriting, campaign optimization, and response handling. Confirm what the entry plan includes: that price should not be treated as a quote for a complete multichannel service. It lists Kunai and Bluefin Innovations under Software Development; check whether their delivery model and target buyers match yours.
Managed B2B prospecting across LinkedIn, cold email, and cold calling.
Agencies that want targeting, message writing, and managed outreach, with channel scope selected separately.
Teams assuming a LinkedIn-only plan includes cold calling, cold email, or a complete technical sales function.
LinkedIn lead generation starts at $397/month on its service page. Confirm response handling and any added email/calling scope. Reviewed October 4, 2026.
Named software-development client examples and LinkedIn starting price reread October 4, 2026. Confirm campaign date and delivery-model fit.
Cold Call Me
Cold Call Me has a dedicated software-development service page describing US-based SDRs, appointment setting, and technical outreach. This supports its stated sector focus, rather than proving delivery quality. Before hiring, ask how its team distinguishes a funded outsourced project from general interest, a software-license purchase, or an internal hiring plan.
Markets software development lead generation, appointment setting, and technical outreach with US-based SDRs.
Custom development agencies looking for a supplier that explicitly addresses their service category.
Teams that require a named, independently checked client outcome before shortlisting; a service page alone does not meet that standard.
Request current quote; comparable scope and price not verified in this review.
Stated software-development focus reviewed August 30, 2026; a named services-client reference is still required.
LevelUp Leads
LevelUp Leads offers Fractional SDR, Full-Service SDR, and Growth packages in omnichannel or cold-calling-only formats. Its pricing page includes reporting, sales training, a go-to-market playbook, and operational support, with different SDR capacity and check-in frequency by tier. The published starting price is $5,000, with an initial three-month commitment. Choose the staffing level around your addressable market and ask for a comparable development-services reference.
Fractional, Full-Service, and Growth SDR packages, with omnichannel and cold-calling-only options.
Agencies choosing between fractional sales support and a larger outsourced SDR team.
Teams needing a month-to-month trial from the outset; the published initial commitment is three months.
Published starting price: $5,000. Monthly prepayment; initial three-month commitment, then month-to-month. Confirm package scope.
Package scope and terms reviewed August 30, 2026; a comparable services-client case is still required.
Martal Group
Martal explicitly includes custom software development on its software-development service page, alongside SaaS and other software categories. It describes email, LinkedIn, and phone outreach followed by qualification and booking. Its site also lists inbound lead qualification, but confirm whether your proposal includes it and how the two workflows share account ownership.
Outbound lead generation for software development firms; also lists inbound lead qualification as a service.
Dev agencies comparing coordinated email, LinkedIn, and phone outreach, with an option to discuss inbound qualification.
Agencies expecting inbound qualification to be included automatically in every outbound engagement.
Request current quote; comparable scope and price not verified in this review.
Custom development appears on its service page, reviewed August 30, 2026. Sector positioning alone does not establish campaign results.
memoryBlue
memoryBlue combines sales development with marketing, its Academy training program, recruiting, and technology services. Its homepage describes multilingual teams serving LATAM, EMEA, and APAC, giving internationally focused agencies a concrete reason to evaluate it. Confirm the languages and regions assigned to your engagement and request a services-client reference. Operatix is part of memoryBlue following its 2023 acquisition, so evaluate both names as one supplier.
Outsourced SDR/BDR services supported by marketing, sales training, recruiting, and technology.
Agencies evaluating an outsourced sales team with multilingual coverage and support for international expansion.
Teams assuming broad software-sector coverage or geographic reach proves experience selling their specific services.
Request a scoped quote; no fixed service price verified on the reviewed homepage.
Homepage scope and Operatix consolidation reviewed August 30, 2026. Confirm relevant services-client experience.
SalesBread
SalesBread describes a process of lookalike list building, researcher-written personalization, LinkedIn and email outreach, and inbox monitoring. It uses the client’s LinkedIn account and says the service is month-to-month. Its FAQ explicitly excludes LinkedIn ads and content creation, which makes the scope easier to compare. Treat the advertised lead guarantee as a contract term to inspect, not a forecast of your qualified opportunities.
Manual prospect research and personalized LinkedIn plus email outreach using the client’s LinkedIn account.
Agencies wanting researched messages, inbox monitoring, and appointment-setting support on a month-to-month service.
Agencies expecting LinkedIn ads or content production; SalesBread says those are excluded.
Month-to-month. Confirm current retainer and setup fee; published price references vary by page.
Scope and month-to-month terms reviewed August 30, 2026. Confirm current retainer, setup and guarantee definition.
SalesRoads
SalesRoads now prices its program by dedicated SDR capacity: the base one-SDR program is $11,950 per four weeks, and two SDRs cost $16,750 per four weeks. The page lists prospect research, a playbook, coaching, CRM work and data operations alongside the reps. This is a staffing-specific base price, not a universal quote for every lead-generation service. Ask whether your proposal delivers researched contacts, held appointments or another agreed output, who handles follow-up, and what qualifies a development-services prospect.
Dedicated SDR capacity with prospect research, sales strategy, coaching and data operations support.
Agencies with capacity for technical discovery that need a dedicated SDR prospecting team.
Teams comparing prices without accounting for four-week billing or the difference between a meeting and a researched lead.
Base one-SDR program: $11,950 per four weeks; two SDRs: $16,750 per four weeks. Confirm scoped terms. Reviewed October 4, 2026.
SDR capacity and four-week pricing reread October 4, 2026. A comparable development-services reference is still required.
Which suppliers have evidence relevant to custom development?
A named custom-development client case is stronger evidence of relevant work than a supplier’s sector page. Belkins publishes the Binarapps case; Cleverly lists Kunai and Bluefin Innovations under Software Development. Ask Cleverly whether each example involved custom delivery, staffing or another offer. Martal Group and Cold Call Me explicitly address software development in their service pages. The other entries remain candidates whose comparable services-client work you should verify.
Belkins reports 56 appointments over six months for Binarapps in a case published July 22, 2020. The same account says the first two months produced no tangible results. This historical, supplier-reported campaign was reread on October 4, 2026; its figures were not independently audited and cannot forecast your results.
A SaaS demo shows interest in a product. A custom-development sales conversation must also establish a problem your team can solve and willingness to consider external delivery. Even when both campaigns target a CTO, their qualification questions differ.
How do the lead generation companies compare?
Suppliers are listed alphabetically, not ranked. Compare the output, staffing and work retained by your team before comparing the price. A LinkedIn entry plan, a platform-and-operations base and a dedicated SDR program cover different work.
CIENCE’s pricing page separates the $5,000 setup from the $2,000 monthly team and $499 monthly graph8 license. Optional SDR capacity, onboarding and meeting fees add to that base. Cleverly’s LinkedIn service starts at $397 per month; confirm whether your plan includes response handling and any additional email or calling work.
SalesRoads’ current pricing is $11,950 per four weeks for the base one-SDR program; two SDRs cost $16,750 per four weeks. Four-week billing is a different interval from calendar-month billing. Confirm the staffing, scope and cancellation terms in your proposal before estimating total campaign cost. These three pricing sources were reread on October 4, 2026.
Looking for Operatix? memoryBlue identifies its acquisition of Operatix in 2023. The memoryBlue entry covers both names; they are one supplier, rather than two independent bids. This source was last reviewed August 30, 2026.
How we built this list
The methodology below explains the evidence levels and review dates. Source links on each supplier card identify the material supporting its inclusion. A missing verified development-services case means you need more proof before hiring; it does not establish that a supplier lacks the experience.
Use the outbound agency comparison when you have chosen outreach and need to assess channel execution. Use the demand-generation agency comparison when the work must also build awareness and authority before an inquiry. The ABM comparison covers programs organized around named accounts. The software development firms hub puts those purchases in the wider growth plan.
What to look for in a lead gen company for software development
Ask for a recent case involving custom development, a comparable buyer and your target geography. Review the qualification notes and sample outreach alongside the result. A title match can identify a person to contact; a CTO may be hiring employees, buying a license or commissioning an external team.
Use the B2B lead-generation outsourcing guide to prepare your supplier brief.
| Evaluation criterion | What to ask for | Red flag |
|---|---|---|
| Comparable client work | A case involving custom development, your target geography and a similar buyer | Only product-demo or software-license case studies |
| Project qualification | Notes covering the business problem, delivery model, timing and willingness to use an external team | A technical title is the entire qualification standard |
| Outreach quality | Sample messages and calls that describe your actual offer accurately | Unverified claims about the prospect's stack or project |
| Commercial terms | Total cost, setup fees, rep allocation, billing interval, minimum term and the handling of rejected or missed meetings | A low cost per lead with no shared definition of a lead |
| Pipeline attribution | Reporting from held meetings through accepted opportunities and won work | Booked meetings reported as though they were revenue |
Agree on what qualifies as a sales-ready lead for a dev agency before comparing supplier results. Assign owners for inbound responses, prospecting replies, meeting attendance and discovery. Your team needs time to do the retained work even when a supplier runs the campaign.
How should a supplier qualify a development opportunity?
A job posting, technology migration or new engineering leader gives you a reason to investigate. Qualification must establish the buyer’s problem and whether an external development team could help. Record the evidence behind each statement and leave unanswered questions visible.
The following handoff is hypothetical. It shows how to separate an observed event from an unconfirmed project; it is not an actual account, client result or qualification threshold.
| Handoff field | Example record |
|---|---|
| Observed event | In this example, a target account has published React developer vacancies. Save the posting URL and observation date in the CRM. |
| Alternative explanations | The account could be expanding an internal team, replacing employees or preparing a new build. The posting does not establish a need for outsourcing. |
| Business problem | Unknown. Ask which delivery problem the hiring is meant to address and whether it falls within your firm's experience. |
| Outsourcing willingness | Unknown. Ask whether the account would consider an external delivery team and for which part of the work. |
| Decision owner | Unknown. Identify who owns the delivery decision and who approves an external engagement; a contact's title alone does not confirm either role. |
| Timing | Unknown. Ask what deadline matters, what must happen before work starts and whether there is an active vendor evaluation. |
| Other unknowns | Budget, procurement requirements, scope and technical constraints remain unconfirmed. Record answers from the prospect with their source and date. |
| Discovery action | If the prospect agrees, route a conversation to your sales owner to establish the problem and external-team fit. The owner accepts, rejects or requests more information and records why. |
When discovery identifies a real need, an architecture review, codebase assessment or DevOps audit may be a useful next step. Agree on the assessment’s scope, deliverer and commercial terms before offering it. Your sales and engineering teams should approve the message and qualification criteria together.
The bottom line
Choose the output before the supplier. A sales team with prospecting capacity may need research; a team able to run discovery but short of outreach capacity may need managed meetings. Belkins has a named custom-development case, and Cleverly names software-development clients. Martal Group and Cold Call Me state a sector focus. Use those evidence levels to request recent comparable work, then compare the full cost and qualification behind the proposed handoff.

About the publisher
100Signals is a demand generation agency for software development firms. We research marketing providers that these firms could hire. Our scans describe software development firms and IT companies as buyers of marketing services; they do not measure the performance of the providers in these lists. The methodology on this page explains the sources used for the comparison.
We compete with some of the agencies above and excluded ourselves from the list. Nobody paid for placement, and we have no affiliate arrangements with the providers listed.
The nine suppliers are listed alphabetically, without scores or performance ranks. We compare stated service focus, custom-development client evidence, channel and staffing scope, qualification, handoff and commercial terms. No company paid for inclusion; 100Signals is excluded from the supplier list. We did not test these services or independently audit client outcomes. The page was updated October 4, 2026 with a method-selection guide and a handoff example. Belkins, CIENCE, Cleverly and SalesRoads primary sources were rechecked that day; other supplier details were last reviewed August 30, 2026. Request a current scoped quote before hiring.

- What's a realistic cost per lead for a software development agency?
- There is no single CPL target that establishes whether a campaign works. Define the stage first: a contact, a positive reply, a held meeting, and an accepted opportunity are different outputs. For an illustrative campaign costing $6,000 and producing 12 held, qualified meetings, cost per meeting is $500. Evaluate acquisition cost using your own meeting-to-win rate, gross profit, and sales costs; this example is not an industry benchmark.
- Is cold email still viable for dev agencies?
- Cold email is one channel to test against your own audience and offer. Ask for recent evidence from comparable development-service campaigns, including delivered messages, positive replies, held meetings, and accepted opportunities. A relevant hiring or technology-change signal can justify research, but it does not prove that the company wants to outsource development.
- How many qualified leads does a dev agency need per month?
- Work backwards from the number of clients you can serve and your observed conversion rate at a defined stage. For example, two new clients at a 5% qualified-opportunity-to-win rate require 40 qualified opportunities across the relevant sales cycle. Those are illustrative assumptions, not a benchmark. Do not use a reply-to-win rate as though it were an opportunity-to-win rate.
- Should we build lead gen in-house or outsource?
- Keep responsibility for the target client, service positioning and opportunity acceptance inside your firm. If your team has time to prospect, contact research may be enough. If it can run discovery but cannot manage outreach, a supplier can own the agreed prospecting work. If it cannot follow up or take qualified calls, solve that capacity gap before adding leads. For partner evaluation and KPI guidance, use the outsourcing guide linked in the body.
- What's the difference between appointment setting and lead generation?
- Appointment setting books meetings with prospects who meet agreed criteria. Lead generation can also include prospect research, inbound capture, nurturing, and qualification. Scope varies by supplier and contract. For this shortlist, ask separately who finds accounts, follows up on inbound inquiries, qualifies project fit, and owns the handoff to your technical sales team.
